We are working with an architectural practice that is looking to fill a strategic new role for a Principal Designer within their office. They are seeking a candidate with substantial experience as a Principal Designer to lead and manage Building Regulations Principal Designer services.
In this role, the successful candidate will not only act as the Principal Designer on specific projects but will also provide CDM and Building Regulations support and guidance to multi-disciplinary teams throughout the design, pre-construction, and delivery stages of various residential projects, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements under CDM and UK Building Regulations.
 
Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver the full scope of services required of a Building Regulations Principal Designer, in accordance with Part 2A of the Building Regulations.
  • Plan, manage, and monitor design work during the project design phase, ensuring effective coordination of all design-related matters.
  • Provide guidance and oversight on risk management issues.
  • Deliver and manage health and safety services to ensure compliance throughout construction projects.
  • Plan, monitor, and manage design and delivery work to adhere to the latest Building Regulations.
  • Contribute to the development of office-wide systems and procedures, fostering a consistent and efficient approach to meeting statutory regulatory requirements.
  
Experience:

  • Strong knowledge of the Building Safety Act 2022 and related secondary legislation.
  • Preferably qualified and experienced as a Building Control Inspector, Surveyor, Advisor, Manager, or Officer.
  • Solid understanding of health and safety legislation.
  • Experience in design and construction processes, ideally as an experienced Architect, Design Manager, or Surveyor.
  • Professional qualifications in construction, engineering, or architecture, such as CABE, RIBA, or MCIAT.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in the construction industry, with expertise in CDM, Health and Safety, and Building Regulations compliance.
  • Excellent working knowledge of CDM 2015 and associated legislation.
  • Proven track record in successfully delivering Principal Designer roles under the Building Safety Act and CDM in both residential and commercial sectors.
  • Ideally hold a NEBOSH Construction Certificate.
  • Preferably an incorporated member of the Association for Project Safety (IMaPs).
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills.
This is a strategic role and one that will be shaped around the individual.
